Snapchat Tests Option to Unpin ‘My AI’ Chatbot from Top of Chat Feed

Snapchat is reportedly testing a new feature that could allow users to unpin its “My AI” chatbot from the top of their chat feed — a move that comes in response to ongoing feedback about the bot’s prominent placement in the app.

Introduced in 2023, My AI is Snapchat’s built-in chatbot powered by artificial intelligence, offering instant responses to user queries and acting as a virtual assistant inside the app. Upon launch, the bot was automatically pinned to the top of every user’s chat list, sparking frustration among users who prefer a more curated and personalized messaging experience.

The catch? For non-paying users, there’s been no way to remove it.

Currently, only Snapchat+ subscribers — the app’s premium tier — have had access to the “Unlink” feature, which hides My AI from their chat interface. Regular users have had no such option.

But that could be changing soon.

According to recent reports, Snapchat is now experimenting with behavior-based visibility for My AI. The company is testing whether to keep the chatbot visible based on actual user engagement. In other words, if you don’t interact with the AI assistant over time, it may quietly vanish from the top of your chat feed. However, it would still remain accessible for users who choose to engage with it again.

This test indicates a potential shift in Snapchat’s approach — giving users more control over their in-app experience while still promoting the utility of its AI tool.

Interestingly, despite the pushback, the My AI chatbot has seen significant adoption. More than 500 million Snapchat users have interacted with the bot to date — that’s over half of Snapchat’s reported 900 million monthly active users. So even if the ability to hide it becomes standard, a large portion of users may simply opt to keep it.

Snap has not provided an official timeline for the rollout of this potential change, but it has confirmed that experiments are underway. If you’ve noticed My AI missing from your inbox lately, this new engagement-based visibility test could be the reason why.

Whether this becomes a permanent feature remains to be seen, but it signals a positive direction for user experience customization on the app.
